The Process
Once you have a Job Confirmation, the countertop project goes through the production steps of templating, fabrication, tear out and installation. Tear out and installation occurs on the same day.

Template:
When we arrive for templating, we ask that you have your cabinets cleared including any existing countertops that are being replaced, and keep the work area free of any objects. This will help us to finish the template efficiently, and will also protect your items from any dust or damage. Templates usually take from 30 minutes to a couple of hours.
If the drawing you submitted for your quote differs from your actual job, we will let you know at this time and adjust the price accordingly. Based on the grand total we require a 50% deposit.
In the templating process, we make a pattern of your cabinets.

During this phase:

  • All sinks/cooktops/faucets are checked for compatibility and fit (therefore all such units must be on-site at template).
  • Cabinets are reviewed for any adjustments required, as best can be determined.
  • Overhang, general support and any personal preferences are discussed. Any refinements needed to the cabinetry, etc., which will be required prior to installation of your countertops, will be discussed with you.
  • Seam placement will be at the discretion of the shop fabricator, based on weight and design.

Sink:
During installation, your undermount sink(s), if applicable, will be mounted under your stone.

Project Information: Below is a list of information we will ask for prior to the production process.

We prefer to obtain all of this information/material at time of templating or very soon after.

  • Sinks - we will bring undermount sinks back to the shop
  • Faucet - make and model and placement
  • Cooktop/Range - make and model; cut-out dimensions; downdraft when applicable
  • Edge - preference

Fabrication:
Prior to fabrication, we encourage you to approve your slabs. We will ask that you review and give final approval of the Quote Checklist. It will take approximately 2 weeks to complete the installation after measurements are taken, so be sure to allow sufficient lead time for the project to be completed. If anything goes wrong during the fabrication process, or if the top is damaged and has to be replaced, that time will be extended.

Tear Out:
If your project requires the removal of your existing counter tops for installation of the new counter top this must be completed prior to our arrival. N & G will not be responsible for the plumbing connections of your new sink, this will be the responsibility of your plumber. There must be a  24 hour curing period allowed before your sink is plumbed.

Site Preparation:
Please note that any delay in acquiring the accessories may also delay the installation. The counter top installers WILL NOT be responsible for connecting of dishwasher, cooktops, or plumbing. All cuts are final. It is impossible to reattach a piece of soapstone/granite that has been cut from the slab. Additionally, once the soapstone/granite is glued in place on the cabinets, moving it is very difficult and risks damaging the cabinets.

Installation:
The installation phase can take the better part of a day; and can require some final cut-outs to be made in your home. The Customer has to provide a window of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in which to install the material. At installation, we ask that you also clear the work area of any objects and clear a path for the installers to carry the soapstone/granite. Please keep in mind that this is a major remodeling job and there may be some residual dust over the next couple of days.

Job Completion:
Your inspection of the finished job is very important. The lead installer will review the installation with  you, answer any questions you may have and ask you to sign a customer satisfaction form.
