The Benefits

Dramatically Different and Mother Nature Approved

There's nothing else like it, and for this reason the aesthetic qualities are appealing to a refined taste of designers and homeowners who are looking for something a whole lot different. So when luxury and durability go hand-in-hand, the choice is clear.

Like any mined product, the natural variations are what make soapstone unique in appearance. Unlike other solid surfaces, soapstone doesn't need to be sealed or resealed when the surface is compromised by heat or toxic chemicals. Instead, the patina of the stone naturally ages to a rich, lustrous hue with a little help from you. Easily maintained, soapstone is initially treated with mineral oil by rubbing it into the surface on a regular basis for the first couple of months. This speeds up the natural darkening process that this version of soapstone (steatite) goes through. The treatment deepens the colour and brings out the natural variegations in the stone. Typically, soapstone comes in shades of gray that darken to deep charcoal, verging on black.

Soapstone's bold statement is a natural complement to all types of cabinetry, and adds that finishing touch to the most sophisticated décor.
